A Bedrock Story
Get it done right - the first time!
We were recently hired to do three separate bathroom renovations in a home that was only three years old.
At first glance, the renovation looked top-notch. Under the surface, however, was another story.
We were weeks away from a possible disaster. Mould had overtaken the base of the shower and water was about to seep into the knock down ceiling below. One renovation turned into three with the possible threat that this problem could happen to the other bathrooms. All of this could have been mitigated if it was done right the first time. Make sure this doesn't become your story!
Our four values of accountable, clean, meticulous and organized are align with every part of our process, design and execution.
Our Core Values Explained

Bathroom renovations may not have a large footprint but they often require the details to be the primary focus. It is difficult to relax if an out of place tile is staring down at you. What Does a Bathroom Renovation Cost?
A full renovation can cost anywhere from $5,000 to $50,000 depending on the size of your bathroom, the materials you choose and the contractor you hire.
Trying to suggest a cost for a Calgary bathroom renovation here is tough because there are so many variables and so many options. It could be complete bathroom renovations, a bathroom remodel, an ensuite bathroom, steam showers, a walk-in shower, custom cabinetry, or an entirely new bathroom.
You will get a lot of your investment back out of your bathroom remodel however, you can expect about 70%, and the entire process of the bathroom remodel is usually pretty quick.
Things that will adjust the price
- Bathroom cabinets and bathroom vanity. Often the centrepiece of the bathroom design and feel, depending on your size and finishings will impact your budget.
- Sink Faucets. Another pop of colour type of element, or a functional element. These items can get expensive depending on your taste. They can at times also increase the custom work your cabinet person has to do to make the plumbing work so be aware of that.
- Other items - wood countertops, a double sink, glass doors on the shower, double vanity, free-standing tub, medicine cabinets and shower heads. All of these items are typically upgrades to the standard, and depending on what you pick can affect the budget.
How Much Time Will It Take?
It usually takes about two to three weeks to complete a standard renovation. Again much like the answer above it really depends on what you are doing, and how involved the renovation process is. Typically, however, a Calgary bathroom renovation is one of the quicker renovations.

What is the best way to Layout a Bathroom?
The best layout for a bathroom depends on the space available, the bathroom's square footage and the specific needs of the user. Here are some general principles and considerations to keep in mind when designing a bathroom layout:
Size and Space: Consider the size of the bathroom. Is it a master bathroom, a family bathroom, or a small bathroom or powder room? The size of the room will greatly influence the layout and the elements you can incorporate.
Zoning: Think about the different zones in the bathroom: the toilet, the sink, and the bath/shower. Each should have its own space, and ideally, you wouldn't see the toilet the instant you open the bathroom door.
Storage: Incorporate enough storage for toiletries, towels, and cleaning supplies. This might include vanity storage, a medicine cabinet, or shelving.
Ventilation: Make sure there's enough ventilation. This could be through a window or an exhaust fan to prevent mold and mildew.
Traffic Flow: Consider how you'll move within the space. Make sure doors (including cabinet and shower doors) have enough space to open fully, and that the layout allows comfortable access to all fixtures.
Plumbing: Remember that moving plumbing fixtures can be expensive. If possible, try to keep the new layout similar to the old one to minimize plumbing changes.
Lighting: Proper lighting is critical in a bathroom. Think about both task lighting (like around the mirror for grooming) and ambient lighting.
Accessibility: If needed, consider accessibility. This might include elements like a walk-in shower, grab bars, or a higher toilet.
Style and Comfort: Lastly, think about your personal style and comfort. This might influence the type of shower or bathtub you choose, the vanity, color schemes, etc.
For smaller bathrooms, consider using fixtures designed for small spaces, like pedestal sinks or showers instead of bathtubs. For larger bathrooms, you might incorporate elements like a double vanity or a separate shower and bathtub.
It's always a good idea to work with a bathroom designer or architect who can help ensure the best layout for your space, or use online design tools to plan your bathroom. And remember, local building codes and regulations will also influence your bathroom layout, so be sure to check these as well.
What are Important things to have in a Guest Bathroom?
If your renovation is primarily for a guest bathroom, be it for small get together or in-law overnighters there are a few things that you want to consider. Your primary bathroom and your other bathrooms have different needs. Your primary bathroom is used every day by multiple people (generally) and needs to be thought out not only for function but also for design.
A guest bathroom, also known as a powder room or half bath, is typically a small bathroom that includes at least a toilet and a sink and is meant for use by visitors. Here are some important elements to consider when equipping a guest bathroom:
Essential Fixtures: A toilet and sink are the bare minimum for a guest bathroom. A mirror above the sink is also essential. Depending on the space available and your guests' needs, you might also include a shower or bathtub, although these are not typically necessary in a guest bathroom.
Toiletries: Provide essential toiletries such as hand soap, toilet paper, and hand towels. You could also consider providing extra items such as body lotion, facial tissues, and air freshener.
Cleanliness: Above all, make sure the bathroom is clean. This includes fresh towels, a clean sink and toilet, and a trash can with a bag liner.
Lighting: Good lighting is important in any bathroom. Make sure the mirror is well-lit for your guests.
Ventilation: Good ventilation is key to keep the bathroom fresh, especially if it has no windows. An exhaust fan can help prevent odours and humidity.
Accessibility: Make sure the bathroom is easily accessible to guests and clearly marked if necessary.
Privacy: Install locks on the doors to ensure your guests' privacy.
Extra Touches: Consider adding extra touches to make your guests feel welcome. This could include fresh flowers, scented candles, or a basket of luxury toiletries. You might also include a plunger discreetly by the toilet to save any potential embarrassment for guests.
Decor: Although not an essential feature, consider the decor in your guest bathroom. A nicely decorated bathroom can enhance your guests' experience and make them feel more comfortable.
Lastly, take a step back and view the bathroom from the perspective of a guest. Is there anything missing that might be needed? If possible, spend a night in your own guest room and use the bathroom as if you were a guest to see if there's anything you may have overlooked.
